Manchester United defender Harry Maguire was one of the standout performers during the 4-2 Premier League win over Sheffield United on Wednesday.

The England international is currently the only fit centre-back in the United squad after injuries to Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Willy Kambwala and Jonny Evans.

Despite this, his individual performances have been good. He scored in the recent FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City and replicated the feat against the Blades at Old Trafford last night.

Maguire also won a crucial penalty at 2-1 which was converted by Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes scored his second with a stunning strike in the 81st minute before providing a quality assist for Rasmus Hojlund’s first goal for United since the middle of February.

The club captain was undoubtedly the man of the match, but Maguire had an equally good outing at the back. He had 110 touches while completing 91 out of his 100 passes attempted.

He also won all his ground and aerial duels (5/5), blocking a couple of shots on goal.

The 31-year-old has had a good season despite the criticism over his decision to stay last summer. He has proved to be a key player for United in recent weeks amid the huge defensive crisis.

United are now sixth in the table after ending a four-match winless run in the league. They are in pole position to qualify for the Europa League with five games left.

They welcome Burnley to Old Trafford for the next league game on Saturday afternoon. It should be another routine win and will hopefully come with a much-needed clean sheet.
