Inter Milan and Lautaro Martinez still have an obstacle to overcome before signing a new long-term agreement.

Both parties have reiterated their intention to prolong their collaboration. The Argentine said it himself yesterday, while Inter CEO Beppe Marotta echoed his words.

The club captain’s current deal is valid until 2026. So while it’s not exactly an urgent matter, it is a topic that the management would like to put to bed sooner rather than later.

As Il Corriere dello Sport (via FcInterNews) explains, Lautaro is also seeking a quick resolution, ideally before he leaves for the Copa America.

Nevertheless, the source explains that the main hurdle remains the same: The two parties have yet to bridge the gap between the player’s request and the management’s offer.

Martinez is reportedly seeking a net salary of 10 million euros. On the other hand, Marotta doesn’t intend to go beyond 9M.

The Roman newspaper believes the bonuses and variables can play a key part in shortening the gap.

However, the two parties haven’t made significant progress in their talks over the last two months.

The situation remains at a standstill since the player’s agent Alejandro Camano held talks with the club’s directors in the Spanish capital ahead of the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Atletico Madrid.

This season, Martinez has taken his game to a whole new level after inheriting the captain’s armband.

The 26-year-old has thus far scored 24 goals in Serie A despite a recent drought. He remains the runaway candidate to win the Capocannoniere Award.
