Pau López (29) has hinted that his time at Olympique de Marseille could be coming to a premature end as the club looks towards a new cycle.

The goalkeeper speaking at the press conference ahead of the final game of the campaign, confirmed that he was unsure of what his future looked like in the south of France. “Of course, I want to continue here, but after a season like this, you have to listen to the club.”

López continued, “You have to be honest and take responsibility for what you have done. Maybe, the club will want to change its squad, a new coach will make choices… I don’t want to be a problem for the club. I have a lot of love for this club and this city, I feel very good here, but what is necessary is I listen to them [the club hierarchy].”

The goalkeeper has become a leadership figure in the Marseille dressing room and has frequently been ready to talk to the press when a voice was needed to explain the difficult results that have littered this season. However, rejuvenation remains the keyword in La Provence, and L’Équipe have previously reported that the club could be in the market for a new face between the posts.

There were conversations last summer over extending López’s contract but a chaotic season has seen those talks fall to the wayside. It is not out of the realm of possibility that the trip to Le Havre AC could be one of the last for López as Marseille’s undisputed number one.
