When Bolton Wanderers decided to swoop for Lee Chung-yong in 2009, the club’s supporters would have been hoping that the winger would go on to set the Premier League alight with his attacking displays.

During his debut season with the Trotters, the South Korean managed to produce some impressive performances in the top-flight as he provided 10 direct goal contributions in 34 appearances.

Lee helped Bolton reach the semi-final of the FA Cup in the 2010/11 campaign by scoring in their dramatic quarter-final triumph over Birmingham City.

After missing a considerable chunk of the 2011/12 season due to a broken leg, the winger featured regularly for Bolton in the Championship in the following campaign as he scored four goals and provided eight assists for his team-mates.

Lee eventually opted to call time on his spell with the Trotters in 2015 as he joined Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee.

Here, we take a look at how the winger has been getting on since his Bolton departure…

After scoring 20 goals and providing 36 assists in 195 appearances for Bolton, Lee would have been hoping to make a positive impact for Palace in the Premier League.

However, the winger ultimately failed to deliver the goods on a consistent basis for the Eagles as he struggled to maintain his fitness during his time at Selhurst Park.

Having only managed to find the back of the net on two occasions in 50 appearances for Palace, Lee was released by the club in 2018.

The former Bolton man joined Vfl Bochum and went on to show some real signs of promise for the German side during the 2018/19 campaign as he provided seven direct goal contributions for the club in the 2.Bundesliga.

Lee was unable to maintain his form in the following season and was eventually allowed to leave the club in March 2020 as he signed for South Korean side Ulsan Hyundai.

The 33-year-old helped the Tigers win the AFC Champions League last December as he made eight appearances in the competition.

During the current campaign, Lee has featured on 26 occasions for Ulsan in all competitions.

The winger will be hoping to overcome an ankle injury in the coming weeks as he looks to help his side retain their AFC Champions League title later this year.
