La Liga outfit Girona were tonight dealt a pair of altogether considerable blows.

As much came during the club’s meeting with Alavés.

Míchel’s troops marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to Mendizorroza for a league meeting with the aforementioned Alavés.

A full eight minutes into injury time, Girona looked as though they had a crucial three points sewn up, owing to goals on the part of Eric García, and Yangel Herrera.

Just when it looked as though Alavés were dead and buried, however, Jon Guridi popped up with his 2nd of the evening, in the process securing a share of the spoils for the hosts.

This means that, should Barcelona go on to get the better of Real Sociedad on Monday, Xavi’s troops will leapfrog their Catalan neighbours back into 2nd in the La Liga table.

And yet, their two dropped points represented far from the only concern for Girona on Friday.

This comes with the Blanquivermells having also seen a key member of their backline pick up what looked like a serious injury.

Just shy of the hour mark, Miguel Gutiérrez went to ground in evident distress, clutching his knee.

He was subsequently helped from the field of play whilst in tears, making clear the serious nature of the situation.

With just three gameweeks of the La Liga season to play, initial signs point towards it being highly unlikely that Gutiérrez will take to the pitch again before the term is out.
