The reports linking OGC Nice manager Francesco Farioli to the managerial role at Ajax have multiplied in recent days, with Telegraaf even reporting that the Italian has an agreement in place with the Eredivisie side. However, Farioli continues to refuse to address the reports surrounding his future.
Farioli has sought to shut down speculation over his future in recent days, insisting that he, his players and the club more generally are impervious to the reports and have constructed a “bubble” in order to prevent such talk from negatively affecting their performances.
However, Le Gym’s loss on Wednesday against Paris Saint-Germain (1-2) essentially ended their season. Nice are guaranteed fifth place, the equivalent of UEFA Europa League qualification, however, they can no longer catch Lille OSC in fourth. With nothing left to play for, was this the time for Farioli to provide clarity on his future?
“I have already had to respond to this question so many times,” said the Italian in Wednesday’s post-match press conference, attended by Get French Football News. “What is important isn’t me but the team. We just want to finish the season in the best way,” added Farioli. Nice will be in the Europa League next season but whether Farioli will guide them in that European campaign remains a question that is yet to be answered.
