Finishing eighth would be a great achievement for Everton says Sørensen

Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that ending the season in eighth position in the Barclays Women’s Super League table would be a great achievement for his side.

The Blue Girls end the campaign with a fixture against Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon. Everton will finish the season in eighth position providing that Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City don’t better their result.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Everton boss Sørensen said that an eighth-place finish would be a big achievement for his side given their bad luck with injuries and budget restrictions.

“It’s very important that we get a win and finish the season off on a high,” Sørensen said. “We can then go on vacation in good spirits and look forward to the new season.

“It has been a challenging season but I think overall, we have been happy with everything that we have been doing.

“Budget-wise, probably only Bristol City are lower in the league, so if we could end up in eighth position, it’s a great achievement for the girls.”

Everton’s final day opponents Bristol City were thumped 8-0 by Barclays Women’s Super League title hopefuls Chelsea last time out while they have lost all of their 10 home league matches so far. Despite The Robins having endured an extremely difficult season, Sørensen still sees them as a threat.

He said “I think they’ll do everything they can regardless of the result against Chelsea. They were dangerous in transition moments in the first half and could’ve scored a couple of goals on another day.

“They are a team that we respect and we have to be ready for the challenge or they’ll cause us problems.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Bristol City kicks-off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
