Arne Slot Set to Become Liverpool’s Next Manager

Arne Slot has officially announced his future role as Liverpool manager, set to take the helm next season. This exciting news comes as Liverpool and Feyenoord have reportedly agreed on a compensation package that could total up to £9.4 million. Additionally, Liverpool are believed to have paid an extra €2 million in add-ons to secure Slot’s services.

Confirmation from Arne Slot

Speaking before his final match against Excelsior as Feyenoord manager, the 45-year-old confirmed the move during a pre-match press conference:

“I can confirm that I will become the trainer there (at Liverpool) next year.”

Feyenoord’s Season Overview

Feyenoord’s campaign effectively concluded two weeks ago when PSV Eindhoven were crowned Eredivisie champions on May 5. Despite finishing second this season, Feyenoord had a successful run under Slot, having won the Eredivisie title in the 2022-2023 season.

Under the guidance of manager Peter Bosz, PSV has been dominant, securing 28 victories out of 32 games, with four draws and only one loss. Given PSV’s exceptional performance, Slot’s inability to lead Feyenoord to consecutive championships is understandable.

Reflecting On His Tenure

Having secured the Dutch domestic cup in April, the remaining matches have been more about fulfilling obligations. As Slot prepares for his final home game in charge of Feyenoord this Sunday, part of his focus undoubtedly shifts towards his future at Liverpool. Slot’s farewell at De Kuip promises to be emotional, and he aims to cap his Feyenoord career with a victory against Excelsior.

Insights from the Press Conference

During his press conference, Slot drew comparisons to his former assistant Mario Pusic, who left for Shakhtar Donetsk in October last year:

“The fact that you know that it is coming, that helps to do it in a nice way, both from the club to me and from me to the people I have worked with,” said Slot. “If you leave in the middle of the season, then perhaps the personal issue will come out of nowhere.”

He continued, “People may still think that the process works like this, that first the clubs are informed and then the coaches or players are informed, but the process does not work like that.”

“As an individual, you already know. Marino Pusic of course knew for a longer time that Shakhtar were interested than the moment he told me or that the club knew. The same goes for me with Liverpool.”

Slot concluded, “So yes, if you abruptly leave during the season, it is a different farewell than the end of the season, when everyone has seen it coming for weeks.”

Looking Ahead To Liverpool

As Arne Slot transitions from Feyenoord to Liverpool, he brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record. Liverpool fans can look forward to an exciting new chapter under his leadership, hoping he can replicate his success in the Premier League.
