30 years on from one of the most unforgettable nights in Italian football history, AC Milan is celebrating and reliving the Rossoneri’s extraordinary triumph over Johan Cruyff’s Barcelona in the Champions League final in Athens on 18 May 1994. From Wednesday 15 May, "Apotheosis - The night we became heroes", an original Milan Media House production, will be exclusively available to watch for all MyMilan subscribers (free registration here).

The documentary, which lasts for just over an hour, retraces the key moments of an incredible journey during a memorable year for the Club and its then President, Silvio Berlusconi, with stories of success both on and away from the pitch. In the football universe, the Rossoneri champions were reborn from their own ashes, overcoming the disappointment of losing the 1993 Champions League final to Marseille in Munich to defy their underdog status and emerge heroes in Athens, the land of the gods. Several figures who played a starring role in that wonderful 1993/94 campaign, which culminated in the Clubs 14th Scudetto title and fifth European Cup/Champions League success, use their words to take us on a journey that ended with the Match of the Century’. It was a game that truly cemented AC Milan’s name in footballing legend.

Apotheosis recalls the road to glory through the heroes who made it happen. From Coach Fabio Capello, Daniele Massaro (who bagged a brace) and Dejan Savićević (who scored a wondergoal) through to Franco Baresi, Mauro Tassotti, Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Costacurta, Filippo Galli, Christian Panucci, Demetrio Albertini, Roberto Donadoni, Sebastiano Rossi and Mario Ielpo. The trip down memory lane, which is enriched by the thoughts of Ariedo Braida (former AC Milan sporting director) and the participation of journalists Sandro Piccinini and Luca Serafini, also captures the opposition’s perspective with comments from Ronald Koeman (who played for Barcelona between 1989 and 1995 and was the top scorer in the 1993/94 Champions League) and Santi Nolla (editor of Mundo Deportivo).

"Apotheosis - The night we became heroes" is a Milan Media House project curated by Maurizio Ferrari, Simone Nobilini and Pasquale Campopiano, with editing and postproduction by Daniele Pagano. Executive production: Lamberto Siega, Miriam Piacentini and Stefano Galizzi. Direction and production: Yassen Genadiev, Giorgio Conte, Priyan Fernando, Matteo Fontana and Gionata Medeot. Graphic design: Fabrizio Pistone. Archive material provided by Cristian Danzo. Mauro Suma played a pivotal role in this project.
