Brentford Women claimed the Trophy Cup following a 4-2 win over Whyteleafe at Meadowbank Stadium on Sunday.

Chloe Logie and Samantha Read scored first half goals as the sides went into the break even at 2-2, Logie and Nikki Woods scoring one goal each in the second half to secure the win.

Head coach Karleigh Osborne made five changes to his starting line-up that beat Clapton Community 2-0 last time out, with Woods, Kirsty Matthews, Freya Worsley, Ella Cottrell and Read each coming into the starting group.

It was Whyteleafe who started the game as the aggressor, Dulcie Gray attacking down the right side and crossing the ball into the box, which snuck over the goal line as Evie Witek tried to save it in goal for Brentford.

The Bees enjoyed plenty of possession inside the opening 15 minutes, however turnovers and strong Whyteleafe defence meant they couldn’t find an early equaliser.

Brentford’s opening goal came on 16 minutes, Woods crossing the ball into the box from the left side, Logie able to meet it with a strong header that hit the top left corner of the net to make it 1-1.

Whyteleafe came close to going ahead again on 18 minutes as Molly Turner found herself through on goal, however her shot went left of the goal.

It was Gray down the right side who continued to prove a threat for Whyteleafe, as her cross into the box on 22 minutes found Turner who headed it home to make it 2-1.

Both sides enjoyed time in possession as the half progressed, Brentford unable to make the most of their possession inside the final third.

It was Read who managed to find an equaliser on 35 minutes. The defender took a free kick close to the centre circle and her powerful strike beat Whyteleafe keeper Poppy Anderson to make it 2-2, where the score would stay come half-time.

It was an even start to the second half, the opening 10 minutes seeing both sides enjoy time on the ball without troubling either backline.

The Bees’ best chance came on 57 minutes, Logie running onto a Matthews’ through ball inside the box, however her shot went right of the goal.

Whyteleafe nearly went one better on 64 minutes, Bekki Keyte firing a shot from the right side that hit the post before being cleared off the line by Regan Graver.

Having avoided falling behind, Brentford wasted little time going back on the attack, Logie running onto a Read ball, fighting off her opponent to win possession and putting the ball in the bottom right corner of the net to make it 3-2 just after the hour mark.

The game continued to be a hotly contested match, however it was Osborne’s side who managed to find the back of the net again on 78 minutes. Matthews’ cross found Woods in the box who took a touch and fired it past the Whyteleafe keeper to make it 4-2, securing the Trophy Cup for Brentford.
