In addition to coach Xavi Hernandez’s future being called into question following the latest revelations regarding Joan Laporta’s dissatisfaction with his comments, many Barcelona players also face the possibility of departing.

With contracts expiring and financial complications compelling the Catalan giants to make some cuts in the roster, the club is expected to undergo significant changes in the upcoming transfer window, potentially reshaping the team’s core.

As such, Sergi Roberto’s future remains a hot topic of discussion, as the player’s contract is running out this summer.

A meeting will take place soon

Now, according to MARCA (h/t FCB World), a meeting is scheduled to be held this week to decide whether or not Roberto will be renewed.

Xavi asked to renew his contract and Joan Laporta also supports his continuity at the club.

While previous reports have mentioned that a one-year contract extension for Sergi Roberto has been agreed upon by both Barcelona and the player, the decision will likely be confirmed in the upcoming meeting.

Roberto is presently one of the lowest earners in the squad, while he also maintains an important presence behind closed doors.

Helping acclimatize new signings to the club and proving to guide youngsters in the dressing room, Barcelona values the captain’s leadership aspect.

However, with Xavi’s future under doubt and the coach possibly hitting the exit door, Roberto may lose one of his biggest supporters.

Thus in the event the coach ends up leaving, the upcoming meeting could take a different turn.

Roberto keen on staying put

Roberto, for his part, has frequently expressed his desire to stay at his boyhood club for at least another year.

“I hope I can stay at the club for next season as a captain and lift another title,” he remarked earlier this year.
