PSG exercised a buy-back option to re-sign Simons from PSV Eindhoven last summer after the Dutchman had ended the 2022/23 campaign as the Eredivisie’s leading scorer. Another fruitful season, after being sent on loan to the Bundesliga to continue his development, has caught the attention of top clubs.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that PSG do not want to sell Simons on a permanent basis, while Leipzig are unable to afford a deal should that stance change.

Another loan move is the ‘most likely option’ for Simons next season and there is interest from the Premier League and former club Barcelona.

Simons spent nine seasons in the academy system at Barcelona before departing for PSG n 2019 after failing to agree a new contract.

The Spanish side are struggling with economic issues and could look to sign the midfielder on loan in a bid to strengthen their squad for next season.

A resolution is expected to be found before Euro 2024, where Simons will form part of the Netherlands squad for the tournament.
