Barcelona president Joan Laporta has begun putting in place the framework to send head coach Xavi packing from his position at the earliest possible opportunity.

That’s according to Diario AS, who have provided an insight into precisely what unfolded behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital over the last 24 hours.

With it now common knowledge that Xavi’s position on the Barcelona bench has been thrown back into doubt – owing to comments made during his latest press conference – the Spanish tactician sat down for a lengthy meeting at the club’s base on Friday.

Xavi, for his part, was eager for as much to feature a face-to-face with Blaugrana president Joan Laporta.

In the end, however, the 44-year-old was forced to make do with vice president Rafa Yuste, and Alejandro Echevarría.

The latter, who does not even hold an official position in the Barcelona boardroom at this moment in time, was sent by former brother-in-law Laporta, to essentially do his dirty work for the Spanish patron.

Incredibly, it is claimed that Echevarría’s orders were to ‘let the coach know that the best solution would be an agreement between both parties regarding his departure, to avoid greater evils’.

Work, in turn, has already begun to ‘find the best formula’ to force Xavi out.

Whilst a firing at this moment in time looks the most likely option, the Barcelona brass are hopeful of their manager agreeing to resign, to ensure that a big-money payout would not be required.
