Blackburn Rovers attacker Sammie Szmodics has revealed that he would have to consider any Premier League offers this summer, speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast.

The Lancashire club have arguably been saved by the ex-Peterborough United man, with his crucial goals at Leeds United and Leicester City during the latter stages of the season helping John Eustace's side to secure some vital away victories.

They could have gone down on the last day, with Rovers travelling to the King Power Stadium, but his double helped to keep Blackburn up at Birmingham City's expense.

Because he has been so brilliant though, Blackburn may find it difficult to retain the player beyond the end of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Other clubs have seen Rovers cash in on the likes of Adam Armstrong, Ash Phillips and Adam Wharton in recent years - and that will give them hope that they could negotiate a deal with Rovers to secure a deal for Szmodics.

The Lancashire club are in a very strong negotiating position though, with the player's contract at Ewood Park not expiring for another two years.

And after that, they have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months, allowing them to demand a sizeable fee for the player.

Luton Town and Brentford are both thought to be keen on the player, but with the former looking increasingly likely to be relegated, the Hatters could be priced out of a move for the 28-year-old.

Sheffield United also have an interest in the player, but they have been relegated and will surely need to watch their spending this summer as they adapt to the financial conditions of the Championship again.

Sammie Szmodics stance on his Blackburn Rovers future

Szmodics was very frank when he spoke about his future on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast.

Revealing that he was open to a move to the top tier this summer, he said: "I can't imagine anyone would (begrudge him a move to the Premier League). I've kept Blackburn up, I've done a real good job for them and it's a great club to play for.

"If I'm still there next season, then happy days. If I'm not, it means I've gone on financially to be better - and to play at a higher level.

"That's what we play football for and I want to play at the highest level. There is no better opportunity than now to try and do that."

Sammie Szmodics could benefit from a Premier League move

At 28, Szmodics may not get too many chances to go to the Premier League.

And this is a key reason why the forward needs to take the chance to secure a top-flight move if it pops up.

He may be all but guaranteed regular starts at Blackburn next season, but the chance to win minutes at the top level is too good of an opportunity to turn down.

Considering he still has a decent amount of time left on his contract though, Szmodics can't afford to get sucked in by this speculation.
