Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool’s supporters during his unveiling, “You have to change from doubter to believer.”

It was a message directed to a weary fanbase that had watched arch-rivals Manchester United win title after title in the previous 20 years, moving above them as English football’s most successful side.

He now brings the curtain down on one of the most successful managerial reigns, having won eight major honours, including the Premier League and Champions League.

Klopp followed through on his opening-day mission statement, effectively transforming Liverpool — a club looking from the outside when he succeeded Brendan Rodgers in October 2015 — into arguably England’s finest.

It’s been quite a spectacular ride, and he leaves some huge shoes to fill and many unforgettable memories.

“The biggest lesson I will take with me is that giving up is definitely not in the Scouse dictionary,” he wrote in the Liverpool Echo.

“I love this more than I could ever say. On and off the pitch, we have created memories between us that will live with me forever.

“Sharing moments of success with the people could only ever be special no matter what club you are at, but the way that Liverpool does it takes it to a whole new level.”

As the dust settles, here are some impressive numbers and stats behind a historic Anfield reign.

Winner

Klopp concluded his time as Liverpool’s manager with the second-highest win rate in the club’s history at 60.90%, closely trailing Sir Kenny Dalglish’s 60.91%. During their victorious 2019-20 Premier League campaign, Liverpool matched the record for the highest percentage of wins by any club in a top-flight season, boasting an 84.21% win rate. Furthermore, only Sir Alex Ferguson (27), Arsene Wenger (15), Pep Guardiola (11) and David Moyes (10) have won more Premier League Manager of the Month awards.

First among equals

In September 2023, Jurgen Klopp achieved a significant milestone by becoming the Liverpool manager to reach 900 goals in the fewest outings (440), surpassing the legendary Bill Shankly by 55 games. In November 2022, Klopp marked his 250th win in all competitions in fewer matches than any other Reds manager (401). He also became the first Liverpool boss to achieve the landmark of 50 wins in European football, accomplishing this feat in just 82 games, surpassing the 49 victories by Rafael Benitez.

Accumulator

Following his first game in charge, Liverpool would become a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League. Under his leadership, the Reds amassed an impressive 705 points, second only to Manchester City. Their remarkable performance in the 2019-20 season saw them clinch the title with 99 points, just shy of City’s record of 100 points two years prior.

Even as runners-up in 2018-19, Liverpool secured an impressive 97 points, the highest total for any team that did not claim the championship. Klopp’s impact is undeniable, with Liverpool averaging 82.1 points per season since his first full season in charge, a significant improvement from the average of 63 points per season in the seven seasons before his appointment.

Trophy hunting

Klopp is the only manager in Liverpool’s history to win the Premier League/First Division, European Cup/Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup. His impressive record includes winning six major trophies, which no predecessor managed. When comparing trophy counts, only Bob Paisley, with 20 trophies, including six league titles, Bill Shankly (11), and Kenny Dalglish (nine), surpass Klopp’s achievements with the club.

Streaky

Klopp leaves behind having posted an incredible unbeaten streak in the Premier League that lasted an impressive 44 games, a feat achieved between January 2019 and February 2020, which places him second only to Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, who holds the league’s record set between May 2003 and October 2004. Additionally, he shares the record for the longest winning streak in the Premier League, achieving 18 consecutive victories — alongside Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City — between October 2019 and February 2020.

Mentality Monsters

Under his leadership, the Reds have demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination. Liverpool have scored an impressive 18 Premier League-winning goals in stoppage time, surpassing Manchester United’s total under Ferguson, who managed 16 such goals. Furthermore, Liverpool has accumulated 144 points from losing positions, a feat unmatched by any other team in Europe’s top five leagues during this period.

A thorn in the side of his rival

Since Jürgen Klopp took charge of Liverpool, Chelsea has seen eight managers come and go, while Tottenham and Manchester United have each had five managers. Arsenal has had three, and Manchester City has had two. During Klopp’s tenure, Liverpool’s performance against Big Six rivals has been impressive, as he has secured more victories than defeats against each of them.
