Manchester City’s latest recruit for the future, Cavan Sullivan has revealed an ambitious plan to be part of the Etihad Stadium’s first-team squad by 18-years-old.

Philadelphia Union announced earlier this week that they had signed Sullivan through to 2028, in a Major League Soccer record deal, at which point the teenager will make the move to Manchester City following an agreement between all parties.

Sullivan, who first joined Philadelphia Union Academy at 10 years old, now becomes the youngest player in club history to be added to the first team roster, and the fifth youngest player to sign a first-team contract in MLS history.

While the immediate future is on developing with Philadelphia Union and growing into the American game, an interview released in light of the groundbreaking news this week only emphasises that remarkable ambition held by the 14-year-old.

Speaking to ESPN in light of his record-breaking agreement with the Philadelphia Union earlier this week, Cavan Sullivan also outlined his ambitious plans for the future, and specifically the next four years.

“I guess my goal is just to become a regular player (for the Union) within the next two years,” Sullivan admitted. “And then after that I would hope to be a starter. I guess that’s from the 16-to-18 age window.

“And then right when I’m 18 I hope to be at the level of the Man City first team,” the 14-year-old continued in a staggering plan for the immediate future.

Philadelphia Union’s sporting director Ernst Tanner was also keen to highlight the remarkable talents of Sullivan, and the potential impact that he could go on to make for the club across the next four years in particular.

“Cavan is undeniably a rare and extraordinary talent. At just 14-years-old his natural skill and vision are far beyond his years. His advanced soccer IQ, paired with his ability to read plays, advance the ball, and score, show just how high his ceiling will be,” Tanner explained.

“We are incredibly pleased to have come to an agreement to have Cavan join the Union on his first professional contract and have no doubt on the impact he will make with the club.”
