114 touches shows how Chelsea man of the match ran the game against Forest

Yesterday’s Chelsea win swung violently both ways, and the Blues were actually pretty poor for most of the game despite getting a win. They lacked control at times, and were pretty sloppy in defence.

One player who was great all game however was Moises Caicedo. And his stats show it. He was the top rated player on WhoScored with a 7.8 rating, and he more than deserved it. His form has been steadily improving after some pretty bleak moments, and yesterday was perhaps the best we’ve seen yet from him.

As well as getting an assist, Caicedo was so neat and tidy in possession, with a 92% success rate and 2 key passes. his 114 touches were second only to Thiago Silva in the whole game.

Defensively he was a rock too – he led the team in interceptions, as well as making 2 clearances and 2 blocks. It was the sort of all action performance we’ve seen a few of in the last few weeks. Just when Notting Forest starting getting control of the game, Caicedo was always on hand to win the ball back and start a move forward.

A big money signing finally clicking into gear

Yesterday’s outstanding showing adds another impressive performance to a growing library from Caicedo. We didn’t want to accept it at first, because the conclusions are so worrying, but it really does look like he’s a player transformed when not playing alongside Enzo Fernandez.

The space he has to cover are that much smaller, and he is always arriving at the right moment rather than a second too late. It will be fantastic for his confidence to get this great run in at the end of the season, and we then have the whole summer to work out how to get the balance with him and Enzo right next year.
