Manchester City are on the verge of a fourth successive Premier League title after a 2-0 win at Tottenham.
Here’s what we made of events in north London.
For a fourth season running, Manchester City look set to be master of all they survey in the Premier League.
The defending champions had to dig deep during Tuesday’s largely game in hand with a Tottenham side still chasing Champions League qualification.
But Pep Guardiola’s men ultimately proved too strong for their hosts, with Erling Haaland coming to the fore in the second half in north London.
City still had to weather their fair share of problems, with Ederson forced off by injury and Stefan Ortega thrown at the mercy of Spurs’ firing line.
Barring an unforeseen sequence of events, the Etihad Stadium will be toasting a fourth successive crown by close of play on Sunday afternoon.
Ange Postecoglou had already warned that the Champions League would not be Spurs’ golden ticket.
It’s probably just as well, given their hopes of returning to Europe’s elite hinged on taking maximum points from City’s unrelenting juggernaut.
The Lilywhites did threaten regularly in the second half, most notably when Heung-min Son fluffed his lines in a one-on-one with Ortega late in the game.
Their continental shortfall, however, does not boil down to that single moment; they have been far too inconsistent for large parts of the current campaign.
There are clear merits to ‘Angeball’ and long-term, the Australian’s view might be right but his side’s shortcomings were again laid bare by the champions-elect.
Goalkeepers were always going to dominate the headlines in some form, especially after Guglielmo Vicario produced an impressive first-half stop.
Yet it was one who started on the substitutes’ bench who made the most profound impact as Ortega became an enforced change after the interval.
Ederson’s collision with Cristian Romero forced the Brazilian out, much to his visible frustration as he trudged over to the touchline area.
Orteta made his fourth appearance off the bench this season and arguably the most impactful in denying Spurs attacking onslaught in the closing stages.
Son and Dejan Kulusevski, notably, failed to find a way past the German-born stopper as he commanded the spotlight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
