Carlo Ancelotti’s troops of course welcomed Alavés to Spain’s capital yesterday evening, for their latest La Liga clash.

Despite his side having long wrapped up the Spanish top-flight title, boss Ancelotti opted for a strong starting XI, eager to keep his star performers sharp ahead of next month’s Champions League final.

Two such players came in the form of the aforementioned Bellingham, and Vinícius Jr.

En route to an eventual 5-0 rout, the former opened the scoring for Real, before also laying on a pair of assists over the course of the 90 minutes.

Partner-in-crime Vinícius, meanwhile, was on target to the tune of a brace, to continue his scintillating recent stretch of form in front of goal.

With just three fixtures of the club’s season remaining, which of the two, then, has proven more decisive in the final third?

The answer is midfielder Bellingham, by the most slender of margins…

The England international’s latest haul has taken him to a remarkable tally of 35 direct goal contributions across the length of the season (23G, 12A).

And wide-man Vinícius finds himself just one behind, with 34 combined goals and assists in 2023/24 (23G, 11A).

The two leading contenders for the Ballon d’Or showing no signs of letting up any time soon…
